Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use Home Manual, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, magnification or voice control.
Our target
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA across the website, the home manual it produces, and its share links.
What we check, on a regular schedule
- Text and controls meet AA contrast, including when they are hovered, focused or pressed.
- Buttons and links are at least 24 by 24 pixels, for both touch and a mouse.
- Pages are checked at phone width as well as on a desktop.
- Motion is reduced when your device asks for reduced motion.
- Pages that are only in English are marked as English, so a screen reader uses an English voice.
What we know doesn't work well yet
- Floor plans, site plans, maps and charts are drawings. Much of what they show is also written out, but not all of it.
- Documents and photos that you or others upload, such as scanned inspection reports, are shown as they are. We don't make them accessible.
- Illustrations and pictures made by AI have short descriptions, not full ones.
- The live weather forecast and its day-by-day detail aren't covered by our automated checks.
- In the iPhone app, the home name at the top that switches homes is smaller than Apple's recommended size for a tap target.
